Madekwe was raised by an ethnically mixed family. She's English, and her father is Nigerian. She was raised in a south London council estate and attended The Brit School at age fourteen. Madekwe's breakout came with 2007's Woody Allen movie Cassandra's Dream. It was in the role of Colin Farrell (who played the role of Cassandra) as well as Ewan McGrath.
